On Saturday, April 22 from 9:30 AM until 2:00 PM, more than 27 residents, representing Ivy Youth and Family Center neighbors, former attendees, Adopted Family parents, and friends participated in the Financial Responsibility Workshop. This event is sponsored by the Ivy Community Charities. in the Spring (April) and Fall (October). Both workshops are held as a free, community outreach project. Session topics for the April workshop were selected based on topics of interest indicated by the majority of persons attending the October 2016 workshop. This Spring workshop featured one major session focusing on Personal Finance and two sessions focusing on Preparing for the Future. CPA, Kimberly Scott, conducted an outstanding, well received session on Budgeting/Building Credit/and Loans. This session was followed by an exceptional and most informative presentation on Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities by Kamal Kelly, Coordinator of External Programs, Prince George’s Community College. Our final session, focusing on retirement, was conducted by the renown Financial Advisor, Shirley Luu. Participants enjoyed a continental breakfast, lunch and the opportunity to network. In the words of several participants, “This workshop was phenomenal; very informative”.
Save the Date! The Fall Financial Responsibility Workshop will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The workshop will feature a two-hour Financial Planning session as well as another topic chosen by the Spring participants. Additional information will be shared in early September.
