On Saturday May 5, 2018, The Sarah Wise Wooten Young Ladies Academy (SWWYLA) attended the 5th Annual 2018 Tots To Teens Expo at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex. The annual expo serves many families in the Washington Metro region providing children an opportunity to explore culture diversity, healthy lifestlyes, S.T.E.M., and connecting families with local organizations and businesses.
The SWWYLA participants spilt into two groups venturing to the many vendors offering interactive activities. One of the first vendors they visited, was the CPR Training station where they learned how to properly perform CPR and learned various life saving techniques. The highly interactive area of the STEM zone was a favorite amongst the girls. The girls learned how robots are built and experienced virtual reality station and video games. They also put their skills to work participating in a building structure competition using gumdrops. The girls explore the importance of pool safety from the representatives from Safe Kids Day and also participated in a heart-pumping performance with Girls On The Run DC. One of the last exciting activities of the day was learning the art of boxing and self defense techniques.
Overall, the girls expressed a genuine interest in every vendor they visited and truly enjoyed the overall experience of attending the expo.
