Through grant funds from the Department of Parks and Recreation, twenty residents, staff and volunteers from the Forestville Rehabilitation and Health Center had the pleasure and opportunity to take a field trip on the Odyssey luncheon cruise. The trip was divided into two dates to better accommodate the residents. The first trip was on Tuesday, May 15th when 11 participants went on the cruise.
On May 22nd, six residents, two staff members and two members from the Sunshine club committee, Jeanette Davis and Carol Herring Reid, were on the cruise.
The cruise was enjoyable, and we were not affected by the weather since it was glass enclosed. After dining with a scrumptious lunch, the committee members and residents interacted, indulged in conversations and danced the day away. They were seated next to a group who came from Raleigh, North Carolina touring the area. They came over to talk with the residents and brought them out on the dance floor. They shared with us that it was very impressive to see a program which offered individuals with physical challenges opportunities to enjoy outside of the Center.
