
On June 4, 2022, The Ivy Community Charites of Prince Geore’s County, Inc. in collaboration with the Iota Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. hosted the Ivy League Awards. We gathered on the grounds of the Ivy Youth and Family Center to celebrate participants of the Sarah Wise Wooten. Young Ladies Academy (SWWYLA), the Institute for the Growth and Development of All America’s Youth (GADAAY), Parents on Track, Popcorn Club and ICC Scholarship recipients. After the welcome by Vice President Kristi L. Holden, Executive Director Cheryl Petty Garnette shared with the attendees the purpose and impact of the Ivy League Programs.
During the Awards Program, which was livestreamed, the SWWYLA Dream Girls were recognized for leadership, academic success, perfect attendance, and congeniality. The GADAAY Fellows received gifts for participation and the seniors got to share their post -secondary plans.
Parents on Track celebrated their comradery and advocacy opportunities. A member of the Popcorn Club Committee shared the literacy and enrichment work that they were doing with William Beanes Elementary School. The program culminated with awarding of over 60K dollars to 18 scholars attending two- and four-year colleges and universities. The scholarship recipients who submitted essays and presentations, received councilmanic, memorial, endowed and raised funds to support their post-secondary plans.
The Ivy League Programs will reconvene in September 2022.
